Back at the castle, Lucille informs Lucy that Morag was actually lying about the royal family getting lost. Through a flashback, Lucille reveals that she and her family were actually coming home from a trip, but were forced into exile when their pet dragon, Lolo, suddenly turned against them and forced Lucille's brother, the Duke, to give up his crown. When Lucy questions why that happened, Lucille believes they might find out from the journal belonging to her family's caretaker and Morag's ancestor, Aggie. However, it is then revealed that Aggie's journal is in the hole that Morag is currently digging up.

Upon crashing into the wall, Lela protects herself by curling into a ball, the crown falls off Morag, and Lincoln falls to the ground so hard, he falls unconscious. Later, in Loch Loud, Lincoln is at work cleaning a chimney, when a flyer suddenly flies into his face, showing only his sisters. Lincoln quickly runs into the town center and discovers to his horror that his sisters are showing off their talents and skills to everyone in Loch Loud. Back at the castle, Lincoln complains that he's once again overshadowed by his sisters.

Afterward, the Louds sail off for home, waving goodbye to the citizens and their ghostly ancestors at the dock. Shortly after they've left, Bobby arrives in Loch Loud via submarine, but is dismayed to learn that he just missed seeing Lori. As the Louds enter the Scottish town, they find the place is full of oddities, like a door built much higher than the sidewalk, the signs being too jumbled to be comprehended, and a small bell being used in the bell tower.

The franchise expanded to film with The Loud House Movie on August 20, 2021, followed by A Loud House Christmas on November 26, 2021, A Really Haunted Loud House on September 28, 2023, and The Casagrandes Movie on March 22, 2024. Landing in the courtyard, the Louds thank Lela for saving Lincoln and Lily, and the citizens arrive, thanking the Louds for saving their home and apologizing to Lincoln for doubting him. Lela, having caught the crown with her tail, hands it to Lincoln and the crowd anticipates the moment he puts it on so he can resume his duties as the duke. Lincoln, after some postulating, gives a speech to everyone by telling them that he originally wanted to be the duke as it would mean he would get to feel as special as his sisters, but realized that he was only thinking about himself and not the others. He goes on to say that Angus has constantly reminded him what it truly means to wear the crown, and that's why he's appointing him as the new Duke. Angus initially declines the offer, believing he's just a simple groundskeeper, but after being told by the citizens just how much he does for the town and with the blessings of the ghosts of the ancestors, Angus agrees to take on the new role and Lincoln places the crown on his head.

The moment he's crowned, Lela, angry over Morag controlling her in an attempt to kill her masters, scoops the deranged former duchess and drops her off on a small rock island far away from Loch Loud. Morag still believes she has won, as she finally got all the peace and quiet to herself, but in a sudden twist of irony, the island is inhabited by a family of seals who constantly bark at each other, making Morag scream in despair. At the castle, the sisters commend Lincoln by saying that passing the crown to Angus was so honorable of him, but question what he said about not feeling as special as them. Lincoln finally confesses to them that the reason he feels this way is because they're all talented in some way and are constantly praised as a result; winning trophies and getting recognized, while he has nothing to show, making him feel like he's not special as them.

However, Morag ruins the moment by reminding Lincoln that he is only staying in Scotland for a week. Taking a suggestion from Angus, Lincoln makes a slideshow presentation convincing his family that they should just move to Scotland (the clincher being that he reminds them that their house back in Royal Woods only has one bathroom). Soon after, a full-blown coronation is held for Lincoln officially becoming the new duke. During the ceremony, however, Morag is noticeably reluctant to crown Lincoln, and Lucille, observing from above, is baffled when Morag mentions that the royal family from 400 years ago got lost during a boat trip. The next day, the Louds, Angus, Lela, the citizens and the ghosts of the ancestors work together to repair all the damage in Loch Loud ("My Way Back Home"). After fixing up the village, and as the Louds interact with their ancestors, Angus tells Lincoln that he'll miss him once the family leaves, and Lincoln tells him that he's free to call him up whenever so he can give him some good duke advice.

Wanting to become the new Duke of Loch Loud, Lincoln partakes in many community service events to help restore the village to its former glory and eventually guilt-trips the rest of the family into moving to Scotland forever because they no longer have to share one bathroom. An ardent fan of all thriller movies, classic and contemporary, Sounak chose the keyboard over the proverbial pen to express himself. A master's degree in Literature and a library full of books helped him a lot in doing so. Before ComingSoon, he clattered away on his keyboard, toiling for edutech and fintech companies. Crime documentaries keep him up at night (in a good way), and he has watched enough to plot the perfect crime.

This causes the crowd to angrily turn against her, and Morag, now having lost everyone's respect, decides to do things "the hard way" by using the royal scepter with the Dragon Stone to summon the ginormous Lela. Despite the hundreds of houses whose chimneys need cleaning, Lincoln, hearing people cheering in the distance, believe it's what must be done to make them happy. Fearing for the worst, Lincoln quickly runs into the town centers and discovers to his horror that his sisters are showing off their talents and skills. Their performances end up catching the attention of everyone in Loch Loud, where they unknowingly trample Lincoln. As Lincoln looks on with heartbreak that he's once again overshadowed his sisters, Morag approaches him and, back at the castle, Lincoln complains to her that because he's the Duke, he should be the most special Loud of all.

Morag, eavesdropping on the conversation, overhears Lincoln saying that, now that he's the duke, he no longer feels overshadowed by his sisters. After keeping Aggie's journal hidden when Lucy and Lucille ask her about it, Morag suggests to Luna that that she and her other sisters should present their talents to the citizens of Loch Loud so they can let their true selves be known to the public. When Angus reminds him that doing his royal duties will make the people happy, as they've been waiting for 400 years for a new duke, Lincoln agrees to help out.

As Lincoln and Lily embrace themselves for impact, Lela swiftly catches them (on her back) and Morag (with her claws) and flies them back at the castle, where the Louds and Angus witness their arrival. Entering the cave behind the waterfall in the courtyard, Angus tells the two girls that the reason why dragons are celebrated in Loch Loud was because their ancestors had a pet dragon, and before they left, their dragon gave birth to a new one, ready to hatch when the new Louds would arrive. Reaching the end of the cave, they encounter a dragon egg, and when Angus goes to inspect it, he discovers that it hatched. Suddenly, Angus gets tackled, and after a brief scuffle, it's revealed to be a baby dragon who behaves much like a dog. Moved by its cute appearance, they proceed to show the rest of the family, with Lily naming the creature Lela. As the family admires Lela, Lincoln reveals himself wearing the Duke's outfit, and proceeds to walk down the stairs rather elegantly.

As Lincoln and Lily brace for impact, Lela swiftly catches them (on her back) and Morag (with her claws) and flies them back to the courtyard. As she cleans, she begins to lament to a portrait of her ancestor, Aggie, who was responsible for driving the Louds' ancestors away 400 years ago in order to achieve peace and quiet. As Morag continues to suffer from the kids' shenanigans (while also reminding herself it's only for one week), Lincoln announces to Angus his plans on becoming the duke. However, Morag ruins the moment by revealing that Lincoln is only staying in Scotland for a week, causing the citizens to believe they celebrated with a tourist and not a permanent resident. At Angus' suggestion, Lincoln tries to convince his family that they should move to Scotland.

Later, the Louds sail away from Loch Loud, waving goodbye to the citizens and their ancestors at the dock. After the ship has travelled a far enough distance, the citizens and the ghosts head back to their homes. At that moment, a submarine arrives at the dock, and Bobby pops out the hatch, having finally arrived at Scotland. Jumping out, he asks the fisherman where he can find Lori Loud, and the fisherman silently responds by handing him a telescope and gestures to the departing ship. Focusing on the ship with the telescope, Bobby discovers Lori on it and, realizing he arrived at Scotland a few moments too late, falls to his knees and screams in anguish.

Full Cast & Crew

The Loud House is an American animated television series created by Chris Savino that premiered on Nickelodeon on May 2, 2016. The series revolves around the chaotic everyday life of a boy named Lincoln Loud, who is the middle child and only son in a large family of 11 children. It is set in a fictional town in southeastern Michigan called Royal Woods, based on Savino's hometown of Royal Oak. The series was pitched to the network in 2013 as a two-minute short film entered in the annual Animated Shorts Program. It entered production the following year.[3] The series is based on Savino's own childhood growing up in a large family, and its animation is largely influenced by newspaper comic strips. Lincoln gives Clyde a phone call to relay the news that he and his family are royalty and have moved in to the castle.

He further elaborates that he once went to France with his grandmother, Gayle, and learned that his ancestral grandmothers were excellent bakers, and that passion for baking passed onto them. This story immediately enlightens Lincoln's mood, saying that he got an idea as a result. The Loud children head back to the town on a rowboat and team up to defeat Morag and un-hypnotize Lela. The sisters eventually get the scepter back and Lincoln, using his magic skills and with help from Lily, destroys the Dragon Stone, which breaks Lela out of her spell. The citizens of Loch Loud congratulate the family and ask Lincoln to resume his place as the duke of the kingdom, though Lincoln declines and instead offers the crown to Angus instead, feeling he deserves it more. Lela, having caught the the crown with her tail, hands it to Lincoln so he can resume his duties as the duke.

Per Netflix, "The Loud House Movie" follows "the Loud family to Scotland where they discover that they are descendants of Scottish royalty. The family quickly indulges in the most wish-fulfilling high-life ever when they discover their ancestral home is a castle." With Lincoln's assistance, the sisters all manage to make it to their respective activities. Later that evening, as the Louds are celebrating at Lynn's Table, everyone recognizes the sisters and quickly run up to them to see them. Seeing how his sisters are all beloved by everyone, a heartbroken Lincoln finds himself wishing he was as special as they are ("Ordinary Me"). At Clyde's house, Lincoln bemoans to his friend that he's always going to be in his sister's shadows.

Unfortunately, the girls eventually get back inside and have a massive brawl over the food, where Lincoln and Lily, hiding under the table, are successful in obtaining one while the other sisters fight for theirs. As Rita and Lynn Sr. begin to panic, saying they're not prepared for this, Lincoln tells them that he knows what to do. In Nickelodeon's The Loud House Movie, the biggest family on television goes on the biggest Loud family vacation ever! The adventure follows the Loud family to Scotland where they discover that they are descendants of Scottish royalty. The family quickly indulges in the most wish-fulfilling high-life ever when they discover their ancestral home is a castle. A spin-off, entitled The Casagrandes, was put into development by Nickelodeon in March 2018.

The rest of the Louds and Angus quickly arrive to the castle, having witnessed Lincoln, Morag and Lela crashing there during their fight. Arriving to the courtyard, they spot Lincoln's unconscious body and quickly rush over to him, but are suddenly stopped by the still-possessed Lela. Morag and Lela trap Louds and Angus in a corner, and Morag orders Lela to fire her breath at them to kill them off for good. Lincoln, having regained consciousness, witnesses Morag about to harm his family, and before Lela can fire her breath, he quickly jumps into the line of fire with the crown, prompting Morag to hastily stop Lela from attacking. Lincoln tells Morag that if she wants the crown, she'll have to get it from him first.

After running the numbers, Lisa concludes that Lynn Sr.'s side of the family hails from Scotland. Rita and Lynn Sr. agree to go vacation in Scotland, but their change jar is mostly empty, because Lola spent it all on keeping her teeth shiny. After helping repair the village, the Loud family says goodbye to Angus and the villagers and sets sail back home to Royal Woods. Lincoln Loud, the middle child and only son of Lynn Loud Sr. and Rita Loud, spends his time assisting his sisters—Lori, Leni, Luna, Luan, Lynn, Lucy, Lana, Lola and Lisa—as they go about their day-to-day duties, while also teaching his youngest sister Lily how to cope with living in a large family. After a particularly successful day in which the sisters all win awards, they celebrate at Lynn Sr.'s restaurant.

After running the numbers, Lisa concludes that Lynn Sr.'s side of the family hails from Scotland, much to the kids' fascination. Unfortunately, the money jar they use to save for trips is empty, as Lola had spent it all to keep her teeth shiny. Not giving up just yet, Lincoln says that they can still go to Scotland, as they have to be a little "adventurous".

Upon reaching the bottom, the sisters laugh, finding his clothes funny and outdated, but Lincoln is unfazed by their insults, saying that he's going to rule Loch Loud. At that moment, Lynn Sr. enters and reveals that he cooked everything for their dinner. Later, Angus is guiding Morag to her temporary residence (a hovel, which Angus stayed in). As they walk, Morag nearly lets it slip that her ancestors drove the Louds' ancestors away, when it was widely reported that they left their kingdom and never came back. Morag, having been alerted to the Loud kids' return, rides on Lela to investigate and tells the Loud kids to show themselves.

He stealthily approaches Morag and, seeing her ordering Lela to fire at Lucy and Lucille, immediately tackles her, attempting to get the royal scepter out of her hands. As Lincoln and Morag fight over the scepter, Morag tells Lincoln that the reason why she wants the crown is because it means she'll never have to deal with the Louds ever again. Suddenly, because Morag was too distracted explaining her plan to Lincoln, she is reminded by Lincoln that they're heading straight for a castle wall.

Lincoln quickly runs through the hole they crashed through earlier, and as Lela crawls through, her large size causes the damaged wall to collapse, stopping the family and Angus from reaching them. As the family panics on how to reach them, Lily begins crawling under the rubble, as she's small enough to get through it. As Morag begins to trudge Lincoln towards the edge of a cliff while demanding him to hand the crown over, Lincoln tries to reason with her that there's a better way, but she refuses to listen, and attempts to derail his self-worth by telling him that he'll never be special and always remain in his sisters' shadows.

As the Louds enter the Scottish town, they ask a nearby fisherman on where they can find Loud relatives, and the fisherman responds by running away while frantically saying their last name, much to their bewilderment. As they venture around the town, they discover other oddities, like a door built much higher than the sidewalk, the signs being too jumbled to be comprehended, and the bell tower using a small bell instead of a giant one. Before long, the citizens begin to converge on the Louds, and one of the citizens asks them if they're really Louds, to which the family agrees. This causes the citizen to tell them that they're in the town of Loch Loud, which is named after their ancestors some 400 years ago. After he and the rest of the citizens explain their history ("This Town Is Named for You"), he guides them to the castle where their ancestors once lived.

House of Bloo's Fandom

house of imaginary friends

It is revealed that Bloo was hiding behind a cardboard cut-out of himself. She is elderly, but has child-like boundless energy and enjoys life to the fullest. Imaginary friends also require sleep, as shown in "The Sweet Stench of Success".

The series is set in a universe in which childhood imaginary friends coexist with humans. In the show's universe, imaginary friends take physical form and become real as soon as children think them up. Once children outgrow them, friends are relocated to the titular orphanage, where they stay until other children adopt them. The home is run by the elderly Madame Foster, its lovable, kind founder; her imaginary friend Mr. Herriman, the strict rule-abider and business manager; and her granddaughter Frankie, who handles day-to-day operations. Because his mother believes he is too old for imaginary friends, eight-year-old Mac is pressured by her to abandon his imaginary friend, Bloo. When Mac takes Bloo to Foster's after seeing a television advertisement, they discover that if Bloo were to live there, he would be available to be adopted by another child.

04 Something Old, Something Bloo

It’s a never-ending tug-of-war between house hunters seeking a place to live and others looking for investment properties. Low homebuying affordability puts a focus on investors — especially big-money giants — and their role in rising home prices. It will be a slugfest, but it’s a reasonable to think the pro-development will eventually prevail as the cost of housing grows. But that kind of emotion and energy isn’t just limited to athletic contests. For example, there are plenty of big real estate battles brewing across California this spring.

Annie Awards

The Extremeasaurus begins to chase Bloo around the junkyard while Terence and Duchess watch from the distance as the Extremeasaurus then corners him. Just as the Extremeasurus is about to eat Bloo, Mac and company arrive with the unicorns, making Bloo dodge the Extremeasaurus. The Unicorns angrily point their horns at Terrence, but he avoids their attack. The next day, a wealthy couple stops by Foster's to find a friend for their spoiled daughter. They only want the best for her, and Frankie sees a perfect chance to get Duchess out of the house for good.

Episodes

She is also often swayed by Bloo's "get rich quick schemes" and has proven to be an efficient ally in promoting Bloo's agendas when she feels she can get a good profit or outcome out of it. Wilt runs away in search of his creator after he receives no visitors at the annual picnic, so Bloo and the gang head out to find him and discover some interesting things about Wilt's secret past along the way. Bloo gets jealous when Mac is chosen to be the sidekick of an imaginary superhero friend. Mac starts to doubt Santa's existence when a hoard of imaginary Santas appear. Although Eduardo is infested with fleas, he soon befriends them, but Frankie and Mr. Herriman want to get rid of them.

house of imaginary friends

A suspicious imaginary friend shows up at the house, and Frankie is out to prove him a fraud. An evil imaginary friend sets a sinister plot in motion against Bloo, and Mac and the home's residents must save him. Bloo is determined to win a game of Hide and Seek, so he hides in the trash. Since 2004, the show spanned 6 seasons with 79 episodes in total, along with 18 shorts that have aired. It’s playoff season for basketball and hockey with sports fans glued to the big matchups.

Before Duchess attempts to stop the Extremeasarurus, Mac and the others drop vases on top of her and Terrence's heads (the same type from the beginning), knocking them both out before they both get eaten by the monster, much to Bloo and Mac's shock. Mac is worried about explaining to his mother about Terrence's supposed death, but Wilt reassured Mac and shows him that the Extremeasaurus revolts with Duchess and Terrence and spits both of them out of its mouth in disgust right near the hands of Frankie and Mr. Herriman. Mac and Bloo are imprisoned by evil characters unwittingly created by Goo in her sleep.

03 Squeeze the Day

He is very attached to Bloo and it is shown that his biggest fear is never seeing him again, because Bloo is what keeps him happy and cheerful and vice versa. Mac becomes hyperactive to the point of a rabid mania when he eats sugar. Once in this state, he becomes impossible to control, will often become obsessed with seeking any other source of sugar. He, alongside Bloo, made a cameo appearance in The Powerpuff Girls series finale, "The Powerpuff Girls Rule!". This seems to support the relationship between Mac and Bloo and Mr. Herriman and Madame foster. The imaginary friends have nothing in common with their creators but retain a close relationship.

Special 23 End of Episode Gags, Part 1

The episode "House of Bloo's" won two Emmy Awards for art direction (Mike Moon) and character design (Craig McCracken). The show's theme song (described by McCracken as "psychedelic ragtime" and written by Venable) was nominated for Best TV Show Theme in 2005, but lost to Danny Elfman's theme to Desperate Housewives. The episode "Go Goo Go" was nominated for Best Animated Program Under One Hour in 2006, and Character Design supervisor Shannon Tindle won an Emmy that same year for that same episode. The 2006 episode "Good Wilt Hunting" was nominated in 2007 for Best Animated Program One Hour or Longer, but lost to the Camp Lazlo TV movie "Where's Lazlo?." However, David Dunnet won an Emmy for his background key design for said episode. The 2008 television movie "Destination Imagination" won another Emmy in 2009 for Best Animated Program One Hour or Longer.

It could also be that the process of creating an imaginary friend is a random occurrence more than something that can be controlled so children don't wish to imagine a random friend and would rather adopt one. Other than in-house items such as Cartoon Network's internet shop (T-Shirts, a Bloo plush, etc.), there has not been much as far as major products. As of 2005, there has been a statue series with Bloo, Mac, and Eduardo featured in the first statue. A 2nd statue features Frankie, Madame Foster, and Mr. Herriman released in November 2006, and the third in the series featuring Wilt and Coco was released in December 2006. Two limited edition inkjet (giclée) cels — one with the cast posing for a picture, the other styled like a cross-stitch — were also created. DVD season boxsets have been released with seasons one and two being released in Region 1 and Region 4 during 2007.

While Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends does serve as a care facility, no other facility has been shown so far. The main examples being in "Dinner is Swerved" where it is shown that there are food imaginary friends that go into hiding for fear of being eaten (a perfectly justifiable reason). Also, in "Seeing Red," Terrence is hungry and inadvertently imagines a pizza imaginary friend whom he eats with no regard. Wilt reveals that there are also imaginary friends who are "unimaginative".

She can lay colorful eggs that contain seemingly anything and everything. Though it is unknown how many friends there are in the world, due to the ability of children to imagine an unlimited number of imaginary friends, it is possible they make up a large portion of the population. Each year, the imaginary friends covered a pop song about friendship when the float arrives in front of Macy's Herald Square store. Bloo, Wilt, Coco and Eduardo performed the Beatles' "With A Little Help From My Friends" in 2006.

Starting in ancient Egypt, this ubiquitous object has been used for myriad purposes. It has shielded eyes from the sun, cured eye infections, warded off evil spirits and honored the gods.

To nail this look, you’ll need a bold, long-staying black pencil to line your waterline. We suggest the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil in Perversion — no amount of glitter tears will budge that intense color. Cut creases already take some serious technique, but add in a perfected cut-out cat eye with liner, and we’d say you’re ready to go pro. Red on the eyes is certainly a statement, and we love the added embellishments for an extra touch.

This look utilizes browns, shimmers, and flesh tones to make a natural look that still has a bit of flair. Winged eyeliner helps to bring length to the eye, and emphasis to your eye makeup. Use smaller wings for a delicate, subtle look, or go big and bold with large wings to make statement. A distinct shape can help to accent the natural shape of the eye as well as make your eyes look bigger, popping right out of your look. After all, that is the point of eye makeup, to help your eyes to shine.

Gel eyeliners tend to last longer when used in this shadow look — we love Inglot Playinn Waterproof Eyeliner Gel, which comes in eight bright shades. We also love how this look keeps the lower lash line bare, so it's all about what's on top. Switch up your look by adding a colored liner to the bottom lashes, emphasizing the inner and outer corners. This blue is stunning along the bottom lashes, but you can use any color you feel comfortable with. Extend the liner out further than the edge of your eye to add just enough drama. This doubled-up liner look gives excellent definition to the eyes and enhances the crease as well.

And Finn continues to record as a solo artist as well, not to mention joining Fleetwood Mac in 2018. Additionally, the song’s call for human connection and the importance of cherishing our relationships with others deeply resonates within me. It serves as a reminder to nurture the connections that bring joy and light into our lives, as they can be a source of liberation and release. The chorus, which serves as the heart of the song, implores us not to give up or let go of our dreams. It reminds us that even when the world seems intent on building walls between us, we have the power to resist and overcome. The line “They come, they come to build a wall between us, we know they won’t win” celebrates the strength of human connection and the resilience of the human spirit.

The song, written by the band’s frontman Neil Finn, was released on Crowded House’s self-titled debut album in 1986 and became a worldwide hit. In this article, we will dive into the meaning, story, and legacy behind “Don’t Dream It’s Over” by Crowded House. Crowded House helped launch a new post-New Wave era in pop music in 1986, creating beautifully simple, earthy melodies driven by guitars rather than synths.

Music, Songs & Lyrics

Madonna wrote a song called "Love Won't Wait" that she didn't want, but became a UK #1 hit for Gary Barlow.

There is a sense that despite the battles we face and the challenges that may arise, there is still freedom and possibility available to us. The line “Try to catch a deluge in a paper cup” beautifully captures the idea of trying to contain something vast and overwhelming in something small and fragile. In 1991, English musician Paul Young covered "Don't Dream It's Over" on his first compilation album, From Time to Time – The Singles Collection (1991). Young's version, released by Columbia, was produced by Dan Hartman, and featured Paul Carrack singing the fourth chorus and performing the keyboard and synthesizers. In this sixth episode of The Story Behind the Song, host Peter Csathy interviews Finn about “Don’t Dream It’s Over” and how it came to be. The two also discuss Neil’s beautiful love song “Fall at Your Feet” from Crowded House’s third album, Woodface.

The song reached North America a few months later, where it peaked at number 2 on the US charts and topped the Canadian charts. Someone later funnily remarked to Finn that if they had titled the song “Hey Now” it would’ve topped the US charts too. The verses of “Don’t Dream It’s Over” represent challenges and obstacles. The contrasting chorus of the song, which features the message “Don’t Dream It’s Over”, portrays a sense of hope and optimism.

Finn’s most iconic song is, without a doubt, “Don’t Dream It’s Over” – you know, the “Hey Now, Hey Now” song. It has transcended mere “classic” status over the years to become one of the most enduring music anthems of the past several decades, inspiring sing-alongs to this day. Neil wrote this song in less than 24 hours, something this podcast has revealed to be quite common for artists when creating their most lasting, signature songs.

The lyrics of “Don’t Dream It’s Over” are both poetic and direct, speaking to the heart of what it means to be human. The opening lines (“There is freedom within, there is freedom without / Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup”) suggest that despite our limitations, we still have the capacity to find meaning and wonder in the world. The harmony is simple stuff (IV–V–I), but it’s effective so, like the first two lines of the verse, Finn repeats it. In fact he repeats the expanding “Hey now, hey now” line twice as the lyrics themselves expand (“They come, they come / To build a wall between us”). In conclusion, “Don’t Dream It’s Over” by Crowded House serves as a timeless anthem for resilience, freedom, and the power of human connection.

The Meaning Behind The Song: Don’t Dream It’s Over by Crowded House

“Don’t Dream It’s Over” is a song about remaining hopeful in the face of adversity. The song’s message seems to be told from the perspective of a relationship, with the narrator urging his loved one to not give up. He tells her that no matter how the world tries to bring them down, ‘we know they won’t win’. The Beatles were such a monumental force in pop music that for a decade after their disbanding, other musical acts seemed consciously to avoid their influence. In Split Enz, however, New Zealand’s Finn brothers, Tim and Neil, embraced it wholeheartedly (this was long before 1990s Britpop, when everyone was at it), and the influence carried over to Neil’s Australian band, Crowded House.
